Angiotensin-converting enzyme (ACE) is a dipeptidyl carboxypeptidase that is found in high concentrations in the pulmonary circulation; it is, however, also present in the systemic vasculature and the kidney.
It converts the decapeptide angiotensin I into the octapeptide angiotensin II. This takes place primarily, but not exclusively, in the lungs.
